RF ready to increase deliveries of natural gas to India-Gazprom's CEO

Russia is ready to increase gas supply to India

MOSCOW, November 23 (Itar-Tass) — Russia is ready to increase gas supply to India, the Russian gas giant Gazprom’s CEO Alexei Miller said at a working meeting with India's ambassador to Russia Ajai Malhotra in Moscow on Wednesday.

According to Gazporom’s information department, the two men discussed guidelines for Russian-Indian cooperation in the energy sector and prospects for the further export of Russian natural gas to India.

“The current level of consumption of natural gas in India will be increased 70 percent in 2020. The Indian market is promising, and we take it into account within the framework of the Eastern Gas Programme,” Miller said.

The explored resources of natural gas in India total about 1.5 trillion cubic meters. By this parameter India occupies fifth place in Asia. About 70 percent of natural gas is off the shores of the western Indian states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Gazprom has exported to India 650,000 tonnes of natural gas since 2009, Gazprom's news release said.
