Venezuela’s Chavez says will stay in power through to 2031

Chavez voiced the confidence he will have a landslide victory in the next presidential election, scheduled for October 2012

CARACAS, November 22 (Itar-Tass) – Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez said Monday he plans staying at the country’s top state post through to 2031.

As he met with a group of students, he said he initially planned resigning in 2021 but since the political opposition claims he is dying he has conceived a different plan and will stay in power with God’s help and the people’s approval through to 2031.

Chavez voiced the confidence he will have a landslide victory in the next presidential election, scheduled for October 2012. He said the election will be followed by a process of deepening the socialist revolution.

He admitted however that regardless of how long he lives, he will not be able to see the Venezuela he is dreaming of.

In the light of it, Chavez urged the students to continue the cause he has launched.

“Socialism, socialism and socialism once again,” Chavez declared. “We must step up the struggle against the social evils like violence, criminality, inequality, injustice, egotism, and individualism that we inherited from the past.”
