Saakashvili signs decree to approve Georgia-Russia WTO agreements

TBILISI, November 18 (Itar-Tass) —— Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili signed a decree to approve the agreements between Georgia and Russia related to Russia’s accession in the World Trade Organization (WTO) signed in Geneva on November 9. The presidential decree was published at the website of the legislative periodical of the Georgian Justice Ministry.

Russian-Georgian negotiations on Russia’s entry in the WTO that lasted for several years ended with the signing of a package of documents, which were developed by a mediating country Switzerland and envisaged the monitoring of the trade turnover on the border with Russia. According to the agreements international observers will be brought to all trading corridors under the aegis of Switzerland and will control the trade and an electronic information exchange system will be created.

“Three trading corridors will work between Georgia and Russia,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry elaborated. “The first corridor will start on the Psou River and will end in the city of Zugdidi, the second one will begin at the entrance to the Roki tunnel and will end in the city of Gori, the third one will be laid between the border checkpoints Verkhny Lars (Russia) and Kazbegi (Georgia).
