MOSCOW, November 18 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin congratulated Mario Monti on Thursday with his appointment to the post of the prime minister of Italy.

“Russian-Italian relations even in conditions of the current global financial crisis are intensive and aim at a long-term perspective. A major confirmation of such reciprocal movement is the mechanism of inter-state consultations which not only regularly registers the growing dynamic of bilateral dialogue, but also determines concrete vectors of its further development,” Medvedev was quoted by his press service as saying in a message to Monti.

Medvedev was satisfied to note that “practically all our joint projects have an innovative character and concern the sphere of high technologies and target major investments. These are the signs of truly strategic partnership based on deep historic tradition of friendship and mutual sympathy.”

The president stressed the significance of Russia-Italy and Italy-Russia cross-year which “further strengthens spiritual, cultural, and human contacts between our peoples” and wished success to Monti in his responsible mission.

Putin, in his turn, said he was “satisfied with the development of bilateral partnership based on long-standing traditions of friendship and mutual sympathy between our peoples, on efficient mechanisms of political dialogue and mighty potential of practical cooperation in various fields.”

“We are ready together with your government to promote the whole complex of bilateral relations. It will fully meet the interests of the Russians and Italians and will go in the fairway of ensuring stability and prosperity on the European continent,” the government pres service quoted him as saying.
