Criminal case opened over death of child at infectious hospital

A three-year-old boy died, while he was being moved to various hospitals overnight to November 2 in Nizhny Tagil

YEKATERINBURG, November 17 (Itar-Tass) —— The Nizhny Tagil investigative department opened a criminal case over the death of a three-year-old child at the city infectious disease hospital. The criminal case was instituted for a detailed investigation, the press service of the Sverdlovsk regional branch of the Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass.

“Under the criminal case a complex expertise is about to be scheduled that will be based on the available documents in order to find the time and reasons for child’s death and will investigate whether the medical aid to the little boy was correct and timely. The actions of the doctors at the city children’s infectious disease hospital, the third children’s city hospital and the ambulance will be investigated. The parents of the boy and medical workers of the foresaid hospitals will be interrogated,” the press service said.

A three-year-old boy died, while he was being moved to various hospitals overnight to November 2 in Nizhny Tagil. At first the boy was hospitalized at the Nizhny Tagil children’s infectious disease hospital with the diagnosis of scarlet fever. The duty surgeon decided to move him to the third city children’s hospital about an hour later. The condition of the child did not improve. He was taken an X-ray of stomach and chest. After that the doctors at the city children’s hospital diagnosed the boy with pneumonia and he was hospitalized again at the children’s infectious disease hospital, where he died several hours later.

The parents accused the doctors, who failed to give the timely medical aid to their son, in a plea in the law enforcement agencies, the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

Regional health officials are investigating the details of the child death. “We requested for all required documents and the medical records of the boy. Within a month we will conduct a departmental inquiry to find the details of the criminal case,” the press service of the regional health care service told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
