Valery Gergiev to receive prestigious art patronage award

The maestro will be given the award at the State Tretyakov Gallery on Wednesday

MOSCOW, November 16 (Itar-Tass) — Renowned Russian conductor Valery Gergiev will receive the Montblanc de la Culture Art Patronage Award that recognizes and celebrates the work of outstanding private patrons of the arts throughout the world.

The maestro will be given the award at the State Tretyakov Gallery on Wednesday.

This year Montblanc celebrates the 20th anniversary of this unique award.

The jury of internationally acclaimed artists chose 12 winners from a shortlist of 36. Winners receive a Montblanc ‘Patron of Art’ Limited Edition Writing Instrument and 15,000 euro, which they donate to the arts program of their choice.

Since 1992 the list of winners has contained such distinguished figures as Dominique du Menil, Sir Simon Rattle, Susan Sontag, Lord Rothschild, Gian Carlo Menotti, Jackie Chan and Tamasaburo Bando.
