Criminal case opened over traffic accident killing Kursk region officials

The criminal case was opened on charges of violation of traffic rules that resulted in the death of three persons

MOSCOW, November 14 (Itar-Tass) —— A criminal case has been initiated over a traffic accident that killed three persons and injured two officials from the Kursk region government, a spokesman for the Russian Investigations Committee told Itar-Tass on Friday.

According to investigators, the accident took place late on Saturday in the Fatezh district of the Kursk region on the 494th kilometre of the Crimea highway. The Toyota Camry car, driven by junior police officer Vladimir Chernikov, rammed a trailer of a KAMAZ truck going in the same direction. Then the Toyota hit the highway guard. As a result, the police officer and two of his passengers – deputy department head of the Kursk regional administration Viktor Kurkin and another man, Alexander Shekhovtsov, died instantly, while two other Toyota passengers, the chairman of the Kursk regional government, Alexander Zubarev, and the deputy head of the regional police department, Valery Petrushin, were hospitalized. The KAMAZ driver was not hurt.

The criminal case was opened on charges of violation of traffic rules that resulted in the death of three persons. An investigation is underway.
