Syrian National Council delegation to visit Moscow on November 15-16

A meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is planned for Tuesday

MOSCOW, November 13 (Itar-Tass) —— A delegation of the Syrian National Council will visit Moscow on November 15-16, Syrian Revolution General Commission representative Dr. Mahmoud al-Hamza told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

He said the delegation would be led by Syrian National Council President Burhan Ghalioun.

“A meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is planned for Tuesday. The delegation will also meet with Chairman of the State Duma International Affairs Committee Konstantin Kosachyov and Federation Council Vice-Speaker Ilyas Umakhanov,” he said. The delegation wants to discuss the Syrian situation, a draft resolution of the UN Security Council on Syria and the fulfillment of the League of Arab States (LAS) initiative by Syrian President Bashar al-Asad.

“Russia-Syria relations will also be on the agenda. We want to preserve relations with Russia, which gives support to the people of Syria,” he said.

Moscow “will convince the opposition representatives of the need to be more constructive and to think about the future of the country and the people. This is the main task. We feel responsible for taking every step for the beginning of the inter-Syrian dialog involving all groups of the Syrian opposition,” Lavrov said earlier.
