Bishkek reinforces protection of border with Astana over terror act

Terror acts were accompanied by a preliminary capture of one of huntsmen’s shops

BISHKEK, November 13 (Itar-Tass) — Kyrgyz military and police structures reinforced security measures in connection with a series of blasts in the city of Taraz, the Kazakh regional centre, Itar-Tass learnt on Sunday at the public relations service of the Kyrgyz State National Security Committee (GKNB).

“Taking into account possible attempts of suspects to hide in the Kyrgyz territory,” the service noted, “GKNB executives took a decision on reinforcing protection of the state border with troops, the regime of passing through control-passage points and perking up search measures of anti-terrorist nature.”

These measures involve structures of the Interior Ministry, the Defence Ministry, the Border Troops and territorial branches of the GKNB. “Our officers together with law enforcers and local bodies of self-government also conduct explanatory work among population, aimed at staving off any negative manifestations in the border zone,” the service emphasised.

According to information from the Kyrgyz GKNB, unidentified people, supposedly from members of the terrorist underground, committed several blasts near the building of the regional administration, the local department of the National Security Committee, central department store and a shop, on November 12 in Taraz (Dzhambul Region, bordering Kyrgyzstan).

There are casualties among civilians and law enforcers. Terror acts were accompanied by a preliminary capture of one of huntsmen’s shops.

The GKNB assures that forces of the Kazakh Interior Ministry and the National Security Committee in the Dzhambul Region “carry out a set of anti-terror measures, aimed at tracking down and nabbing masterminds of the above actions, at heading off their possible plans and intentions of terrorist nature”.
