HONOLULU, November 13 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Truong Tan Sang on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Honolulu.
The current meeting is the first contact between the two countries’ leaders after Truong Tan Sang was elected as Vietnam’s president last August.
Ahead of the meeting Russian presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko said “of late the Russian-Vietnamese strategic partnership acquired a comprehensive character and was enriched with new, high-tech dimension.”
The cooperation in the nuclear power sector has a specific place in the two countries’ relations, he said. Russia has been implementing a joint project on the construction of Vietnam’s first nuclear power plant.
“Long-term cooperation in such traditional areas as oil and gas, research and technologies, education and culture has been given a tangible impetus,” Prikhodko said.
