MOSCOW, November 11 (Itar-Tass) —— Criminal charges have been brought against a deputy warden of a female penitentiary where a convict’s baby died, a source at the Russian Investigation Committee told Itar-Tass on Friday.

“The Moscow regional main investigative department of the Russian Investigation Committee opened a criminal case against deputy head of the fifth penitentiary Maj. Vladimir Fedchenko suspected of culpable negligence,” the source said.

“Fedchenko failed to provide due medical aid and monitoring of children at the penitentiary orphanage, which resulted in the death of a ten-months-old girl of pneumonia on November 8. In all, 59 children aged from three to 18 months were hospitalized with infectious diseases,” he said.
