Demonstrator heavily wounded in US protest actions

Burlington had threatened to evict the protesters because the park is closed overnight, but city officials made special accommodation for the protesters

NEW YORK, November 11 (Itar-Tass) —— A protester was shot and heavily wounded on Thursday in an Occupy Wall Street encampment in Burlington, Vermont, police said.

The Associated Press said the victim had been identified, but the name of the 35-year old man would not be released until his family is notified.

The man was hospitalized in a critical condition and the shooting at the City Park Hall is being investigated.

Burlington had threatened to evict the protesters because the park is closed overnight, but city officials made special accommodation for the protesters. About two dozen tents remain, the Associated Press said.

Also on Thursday dozens of people were arrested during Occupy demonstrations at the University of California, Berkeley campus, as riot police twice clashed with protesters trying to set up encampments.

Thirty-two people were arrested for resisting police and failing to disperse, AP quoted Berkeley police Lt. Alex Yao as saying. Police eventually formed a perimeter around the university’s main administration building.
