Education ministry to have agreements with sports federations

Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science plans to have cooperation agreements with federations of track and field athletics

MOSCOW, November 10 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science plans to have cooperation agreements with federations of track and field athletics, basketball and volleyball, which will assist in training of sports teachers for secondary schools, Minister Andrei Furskenko told reporters on Thursday.

School physical classes “should be variable, and at a certain stage school pupils should have a right to choose in which kind of sports they would be more active.”

Fursenko is adamant that team kinds sports are especially good for schools, as they “unite and teach team working,” which is a main objective of school education.

The ministry has signed already similar agreements with national federations of callisthenics, badminton, fitness and with the Russian Football Union.
