MOSCOW, November 9 (Itar-Tass) — Climatologists from 33 countries address mankind to start get adapted seriously to inevitable global climate changes.
This was the main result of an international scientific conference called Adaptation to Climate Change, which closed on Wednesday at the Moscow Centre of International Trade.
“The conference was interesting by the dispersion of views, by their varieties,” Head of Russia’s Roshydromet /Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring/ Alexander Frolov said. “Views on many issues matched, and first of all those on necessity to offer at national levels strategies to get adapted to climate changes.”
“Nowadays, some countries have such strategies, but others – do not, but in most countries this issue is not even on political agenda,” he said. “Some even do not realise the threats from climate changes.”
Meanwhile, such strategies should be made at exactly national levels, Frolov said, as the common part in our planet’s climate is the proven tendencies for changes, or rather to global warming. What they may cause is a problem. If not individual per a state, then surely it is regional. In one location, for example, the global warming will cause droughts, in another – to excessive humidity.
“There is no general, universal solution, and thus it is important that the scientific community deals deeply with these topics and comes to a mutually acceptable view,” he said. The approach should be systematic, or rather eco systematic, he added.
“Costs of any economic projects should comprise an ecology component,” he said.
The conference’s decisions will be presented to the Intergovernmental group of experts, and besides to the meeting of the UN Second Framework Convention on Climate Change, due in November – early December in Durban /South Africa/.
The conference organisers say that the forum of climatologists featured 600 participants from 33 countries.
