BERLIN, November 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia-Germany trade will hit a record of $70 billion this year, President Dmitry Medvedev said.
He met with German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Tuesday before a reception given on behalf of German Federal President Christian Wulff.
“We have just discussed breaking news: Greece, Italy and the startup of the Nord Stream pipeline,” Medvedev said. “I wish we had many more positive news of the sort because people are tired of the mostly negative political and economic trends. This event is very good for Russia, Germany and other countries, which took part in the opening of the first line of Nord Stream today.”
“The project contributes to European energy security. Thanks God, Russia-Germany relations are not limited to oil and gas. We have plenty of other projects,” he said.
“Russia-Germany trade will reach a fantastic amount of $70 billion this year. It may be the biggest level of trade and economic cooperation in the entire history of Russia-Germany relations,” he said.
Medvedev said he wanted to discuss with Merkel international issues of mutual interest and humanitarian affairs.
Merkel said there were big challenges in international relations and cited the Middle East as an example.
She also said she planned to discuss European problems with Medvedev.
