BERLIN, November 8 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia hopes that Europe will take measures for overcoming the crisis of the euro zone as soon as possible, and urges all the countries to handle the problem in a responsible way, President Dmitry Medvedev said at a press conference on the results of his talks with German Federal President Christian Wulff.
“We hope that in the difficult period the EU countries are living through, a package of measures which should be taken, including by Germany, for putting an end to a series of grave problems facing some countries of the euro zone, will be taken, and we shall be able to develop comprehensive and advanced economic relations with Germany and other EU countries,” Medvedev said.
According to Medvedev, much depends on Germany. “We hope that in the current situation all countries will behave in a responsible way,” he stressed.
His German counterpart pointed to the similarity of stands of the two countries on many problems. “The number of items on which we register mutual accord looks impressive,” Wulff said. These include, in the first place, economic and financial problems, as well as problems of the security policy, which the two presidents discussed at the morning meeting.
The German President said that Germany would like “to fill with life the strategic partnership of Russia and Germany, the so-called modernization partnership.”
“The planned joining of WTO by Russia is another positive step,” Wulff continued. According to his information, during the conversation President Medvedev mentioned a number of spheres, in which the two countries could develop cooperation. “German business people are ready for such partnership,” Wulff said.
He reminded as well of the role played by the Soviet Union in the unification of Germany. According to Wulff, the USSR and Russia helped again “to find a way to the unification of Germany.” Wulff said that on November 9, 1989, 22 years ago, the first openings had been made in the Berlin wall, which had resulted in the fall of the “iron curtain in Europe.”
Wulff said that he had discussed with Medvedev further actions to be taken for building civil society.
