Putin notes Sino-Russian initiative for mobile satellite communications in SCO

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin noted the Russian-Chinese initiative that calls for creating a mobile satellite communication system in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation area

ST. PETERSBURG, November 7 (Itar-Tass) —— Prime Minister Vladimir Putin noted the Russian-Chinese initiative that calls for creating a mobile satellite communication system in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) area.

“We plan to use flexible and compact formats for implementing concrete projects in the SCO,” Putin said at a press conference after a meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on Monday, November 7.

“For example, Russia and China could launch a programme involving one or two states. Other countries could join in later,” he said. “We suggest paying attention to the Russian-Chinese initiative for creating a personal mobile satellite communication system in the SCO area.”

SCO member states have agreed to step up the creation of a special SCO account that should become an effective tool for financial operations. “We will explore the question of Development Bank in parallel,” Putin added.

He said priority would be given to priority projects.

The prime ministers discussed a daft agreement on creation of favourable conditions for international road carriage operations. “We hope that this document will be adopted in the next several months,” he said.

At the same time, Putin stressed that humanitarian cooperation remained a traditionally important and fruitful area of collaboration among the SCO states.
