Kazakhstan arrests group suspected of setting off Atyrau blasts

At present, arrested members of the criminal group are giving evidence

ASTANA, November 7 (Itar-Tass) — A criminal group suspected of setting off explosions in Atyrau, former Guryev, western Kazakhstan, has been arrested, the prosecutor’s office of the Atyrau region said on Monday.

“This group was engaged in making makeshift explosive devices to use them for carrying out actions intimidating law enforcers and officials of other state bodies,” the source said.

The first blast ripped through Atyrau’s regional centre close to the building of the regional administration. No victims and destructions were reported. The second blast near a multi-storey apartment building killed one man.

A criminal case was instituted on the charges of terrorism.

At present, arrested members of the criminal group are giving evidence.
