CANNES, November 4 (Itar-Tass) — G20 leaders greeted with applause Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou’s statement on adherence to the European plan of financial assistance. Sources on the G20 summit sidelines said that the heads of state and government of the leading nations watched from Cannes the prime minister’s address to the parliamentarians in Athens.

“The failure of the referendum would mean the withdrawal from the euro area,” said Papandreou. In this connection he urged the party members to prevent a “catastrophe.”
