CANNES, November 3 (Itar-Tass) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Europe itself should achieve economic rehabilitation.
Speaking at the G-20 business summit on Thursday, Medvedev said, “Europe itself should achieve economic rehabilitation. Russia is ready to help, including through the IMF [International Monetary Fund].”
“I’m sure that due to the size of European economy, no foreign assistance can be decisive. First of all, Europe itself should achieve economic rehabilitation,” the Russian president stressed.
In his view, “the European Union has all resources – political and financial ones, as well as support by other countries.” He recognised that he did not want to advise the sovereign countries what and how to do. “But, firstly, Russia is part of Europe and its problems are indifferent to us. Secondly, we will take part in programmes of financial support for EU countries, through the IMF as a minimum. Thus, we have the right to determine our position,” the Russian leader said.
