Gazprom seeks to develop first gas deposit in Sri Lanka

Gazprom will send technical experts to Sri Lanka shortly for further discussions on this problem

NEW DELHI, November 3 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s giant Gazprom seeks to develop the first gas field in Sri Lanka, the Island newspaper writes on Thursday.

In an article published in the newspaper, Sri Lankan Minister of Petroleum Industries Susil Premajayantha said the talks on this issue had been held within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Moscow.

Gazprom will send technical experts to Sri Lanka shortly for further discussions on this problem, the Sri Lankan minister stressed.

A gas deposit has been found in the Gulf of Mannar in a 4,300 metres lower sea level.
