United Russia to use images of Putin, Medvedev for electioneering

Electioneering in the mass media is to begin on November 5 and to end at 00.00 local time on December 3

MOSCOW, November 2 (Itar-Tass) —— The United Russia party will use the image of its leader, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for electioneering. The head of state gave his consent to this on Wednesday, the secretary of the UR General Council’s Presidium, Sergei Neverov, said.

Certainly, the party will be using the images of President Dmitry Medvedev, too. His consent to lead United Russia’s list was tantamount to permission.

“United Russia is the sole party in the country that have traditionally received such consent from the president and the head of government,” Neverov said. “Vladimir Putin is the leader of our party. The election list of United Russia is led by President Dmitry Medvedev. We are a team sharing common goals and tasks of developing the country and of giving the people a better life. And in the elections we shall act together, too.”

Putin led United Russia’s election list in the State Duma elections of 2007. In the December 4, 2011 elections to the lower house of parliament President Medvedev is number one on the UR ticket. The party’s 12th congress made a decision to this effect on September 24. Then Medvedev suggested nominating Putin as candidate for Russia’s president. The second phase of the 12th congress of the party, which will formally name its candidate for the head of state, is due on November 27.

Electioneering in the mass media is to begin on November 5 and to end at 00.00 local time on December 3. Then there will follow a day of pre-election silence.
