Medvedev says medical standards need to be brought in line with EU ones

“I am speaking to the government and the Ministry of Health and Social Development: all this must updated,” the president said

ST. PETERSBURG, November 2 (Itar-Tass) —— President Dmitry Medvedev called for bringing Russian medical standards in line with European and international ones.

“Many of our standards, including medical ones, are from the previous times, and we must bring them in line with current needs,” Medvedev said at a meeting at St. Petersburg’s Dzhanelidze Research Institute of Emergency Care on Wednesday, November 2.

“I am speaking to the government and the Ministry of Health and Social Development: all this must updated,” the president said.

He recalled that Russia has already brought some of the standards in compliance with EU requirements, including in construction. Now this must be done in medicine as well, Medvedev said.

“We can assume responsibility and say that EU or, for example, international standards are quite acceptable to us and sufficient. One of my instructions will be to that effect,” the president said.
