VLADIVOSTOK, October 31 (Itar-Tass) — Head of the Primorsky Territory’s traffic police Alexander Lysenko who is suspected of beating a street racer on Monday tendered resignation, the press service of the regional internal affairs department reported.
“The resignation was sent in to the Russian Interior Ministry,” the department’s spokesperson Irina Syrova said.
In early June, a criminal case was opened against Alexander Lysenko under the RF Criminal Code article “abuse of authority.” He was suspended for the period of the investigation.
The reason for the case opening was a conflict that occurred in the streets of Vladivostok in late May when policemen detained a street racer. The latter said in several days that he was beaten personally by the regional traffic police chief and presented a video as evidence.
In August, Lysenko successfully passed merit rating and officially became head of the territorial traffic police, however, during this period he was on a sick leave and factually did not manage the department.
