Driver who rammed dozen cars lands up in mental hospital

А medical examination confirmed the driver was not drunk but suffered from a mental disorder

MOSCOW, October 31 (Itar-Tass) — A driver who had rammed twelve cars, including four police vehicles, in different streets in Moscow, was diagnosed with mental disorder and brought to a mental hospital, a source from Moscow law enforcement bodies said on Monday.

The driver of a Renault Megane was detained in Podvoiskogo Street in Moscow on Sunday. The driver, who proved to be a citizen of Moldova, ignored prohibiting traffic lights and drove into a square near Kiev railway station in a bid to escape from traffic police. The policemen pursued the driver who ignored police demands to stop and went on driving, ignoring traffic rules. Police continued pursuit of the driver who damaged around a dozen cars, including four police vehicles.

When police blockaded the car the driver took off his clothes and attempted to escape from the car, but was detained. The driver was not in an adequate condition. Police found a bottle with an unidentified liquid inside the car and sent it to a laboratory for test. The driver was brought to a medical institution for a psychiatric assessment.

After a medical examination, which confirmed the driver was not drunk but suffered from a mental disorder, he was brought to mental hospital No 3.

Moscow police are deciding whether a criminal case against the reckless driver should be opened on charges of hooliganism and an attempt on a policeman’s life.
