Aeroflot to launch direct flights to Mexico’s Cancun

“The first Airbus-300 airliner will arrive in Cancun today,” Zherdev said

MEXICO, October 31 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian largest air company Aeroflot will launch direct flights to a famous resort Cancun in south-eastern Mexico, Aeroflot general representative in Latin America Yevgeny Zherdev told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“The first Airbus-300 airliner will arrive in Cancun today,” Zherdev said. Aeroflot decided to make regular flights to the Mexican resort over a growing interest the tourists have in the vacations in Mexico, he said. The Russian air company is planning to increase the number of flights to Cancun.

Zherdev also noted that in “the winter season” Aeroflot raises the number of flights in other Caribbean countries. The air company makes five weekly flights to Havana and three flights to the city of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

The Transaero Airlines will also make flights to Cancun. Aeroflot and Transaero will make three weekly flights to Cancun starting from January 2012, spokesman of the Russian Federal Tourism Agency in Mexico Sergei Kilyakov told Itar-Tass. This measure will result in a quite higher inflow of tourists to Mexico not only from Russia, but also from other former Soviet republics, he said.

Kilyakov noted that the fact that the Mexican authorities facilitated the Mexican visa rules for Russian citizens contributed to a higher number of Russian tourists in Mexico.
