KIEV, October 30 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukraine switched to the winter time last night. The time gap between Ukraine and Russia, which sticks to daylight saving time, is two hours now.
The Ukrainian switch to the winter time may cause train delays from ten minutes to 3 hours 17 minutes from October 30 to December 3, the Federal Passenger Company, a subsidiary of Russian Railroads, told Itar-Tass on Friday.
The Verkhovna Rada decided to stop shifting to the winter time on September 20, and the adjustment of the schedule of railroad traffic to Ukraine and farther on Europe started. The Verkhovna Rada cancelled the decision on October 18 and the schedule had to be changed again.
The new traffic schedule will come into effect on December 3, the company said.
Russian railroads will start booking tickets to Ukraine by the middle of November, the company said earlier this week.
Tickets will be booked for trains, which depart after December 3. “The booking was suspended for the period of the adjustment of the railroad traffic schedule caused by the Verkhovna Rada’s decision to stop shifting to the winter time,” the company said.
“We are trying to complete this work as soon as possible, but the new traffic schedule will be ready no earlier than by the first ten days of November,” the company said.
Trains to Ukraine will travel in accordance with the earlier schedule on October 31 – December 3.
Ukraine started shifting to daylight saving time and back in 1981.
