NATO to confirm end to Libya mission

The official decision to end the NATO operation will be adopted in close cooperation with the United Nations and Libya

BRUSSELS, October 28 (Itar-Tass) —— The NATO Council is to confirm on Friday the preliminary decision adopted last week to end the operation in Libya on October 31, the press service of the alliance told Tass.

“NATO secretary general is in contact with new Libyan authorities. Besides, the alliance holds intensive consultations with the United Nations. The official decision to end the NATO operation will be adopted in close cooperation with the United Nations and Libya,” the press service said.

On Thursday the UN Security Council cancelled the no-fly zone in Libya. A corresponding resolution will be enacted on the last minute of October 31.

“Radical changes took place in Libya. It is time to end (the operation), including the no-fly zone,” Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said.
