Ex policeman accused of leading gang which murdered journalist - SK

MOSCOW, October 27 (Itar-Tass) — The Investigative Committee (SK) brought charges against former organized crime police officer Sergei Khadzhikurbanov within the case over the murder of Novaya Gazeta reporter Anna Politkovskaya, SK spokesman Vladimir Markin confirmed to Itar-Tass on Thursday.

"Khadzhikurbanov is accused of leading a criminal group after being released from prison on September 22, 2006, in the period when it prepared for and carried out the assassination of Ana Politkovskaya," Markin said.

The charges against the former policeman were brought under Article 105, Part 2, Items "zh," and "z", of Russia's Criminal Code ("murder committed by a group of persons in collusion for selfish motives or for hire").
