RF’s united transport system for FIFA 2018 to be ready late 2016

It will be necessary to distribute transport among the cities

YEKATERINBURG, October 27 (Itar-Tass) — Russia’s united transport system for the FIFA-2018 championship should be ready by late 2016, Director General of the Olympic Games’ Transport Directorate Sergei Kozyrev told a conference on preparation of Russia’s cities for hosting the football games.

“We do not have much time left, and preparations of transport infrastructures to major sports event, like the Olympic Games, or international competitions, have their peculiarities,” he said. “The main complicated part is that by the championship of 2018, we should organise a circle of transport infrastructures of Russia’s ten cities, and this work should be divided into three stages.”

The first stage will work out a concept of transport services. It should be due by June of 2012, Kozyrev said. The second stage, which will last to the end of 2013, will suggest a master plan for the championship, and the third stage will produce an operational master plan.

“Throughout this time, there will be a monitoring and experts in transport will exchange their knowledge and experience,” he explained. “In the framework of the transport planning, we shall have a special calculation of means of transportation, which will serve guests and participants in the World championship.”

It will be necessary to distribute transport among the cities, minding the games’ schedules, departures of fans whose teams lose at the stage of the group tournaments, and arrivals of fans for play-off games.
