Investigation into Starovoitova murder case re-opened

MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) —— Investigation of the criminal case of assassination of State Duma deputy Galina Starovoitova has been re-opened, a source in the staff of the State Duma Security Committee told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The criminal proceedings were instituted in 1998 in connection with the murder under article 277 (a terrorist act) and a number of other articles, said the source. “The case was suspended after those who executed the crime had been caught,” said the source.

“The investigation was resumed on October 14, 2011. It is conducted by the FSB (Federal Security Service) department for St Petersburg and Leningrad region, said the source without specifying the circumstances of this decision.

St Petersburg court had already passed the sentences on eight persons for the deprivation of freedom of from eleven to 23 and a half years. Among those sentenced are the organizer of the crime and the actual killer.
