Body of missing boy found in suburban Vladivostok

It is premature to draw any conclusions regarding the cause of death, an SK expert said

VLADIVOSTOK, October 26 (Itar-Tass) — Police in the Primorye Territory recovered the body of the 10-year-old boy who disappeared two weeks ago. The body was found on the coast of Lazurnaya Bay in suburban Vladivostok, the press service of the regional department of the Investigative Committee (SK) told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

The parents of Sergei Polevoy have identified their son, the SK said.

"The body was drifting along the shore, and it was local residents who noticed it and called rescuers and police. "The SK specialists have inspected the scene of accident," it added.

It is premature to draw any conclusions regarding the cause of death, an SK expert said.

Sergei Polyakov disappeared on October 16 near Steklyannaya Bay, where his family was spending a weekend. The search parties consisting of police, rescuers and volunteers have combed the 20-kilometer area around the place where the boy was last seen.

It is the first time Vladivostok showed such concerted support in the efforts to find a missing child.

Divers searched the bottom of the bay and found a video camera which the child had taken with him. The experts reconstructed the recording but it failed to shed light on what might have happened to Sergei.

Criminal proceedings over the fact of his disappearance were opened under the Criminal Code article on murder.
