Economic Development Ministry hopes WTO talks to be over mid-December

"We would like to see the December session of the WTO General Council make a decision on Russia’s accession," Tkachenko said

MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s Economic Development Ministry hopes that negotiations on Russia’s admission to the World Trade Organization will be completed in the middle of December 2011, the director of the ministry’s trading negotiations department, Vladimir Tkachenko, told the media on Wednesday.

“So far we have complied with the schedule. We wish to complete this process in the middle of December 2011,” he said. “We would like to see the December session of the WTO General Council make a decision on Russia’s accession,” Tkachenko said.

“The negotiations as such are over. There still remain minor technicalities, which are being finalized. In particular, there is a question of Georgia,” he said. “We proceed from the assumption this decision will be made in December.”
