Fire in Moscow metro tunnel blamed on careless smoking

The fire in the metro tunnel began 100 meters off Orekhovo metro stastion in the south of Moscow on Wednesday morning

MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) — Careless smoking is believed to have caused a fire in the metro tunnel between Orekhovo and Tsaritsino metro stations in Moscow on Wednesday morning, press service Chief of the emergencies ministry department for Moscow Yevgeny Bobylyov told Itar-Tass.

According to a preliminary inquest the fire was a result of carelessness of a smoker who is not established yet, Bobylyov said. Technical sheets used for rail repairs caught fire in a tunnel workshop. An overall territory to which the fire spread was ten square meters, Bobylyov said.

The fire in the metro tunnel began 100 meters off Orekhovo metro stastion in the south of Moscow on Wednesday morning. All the passengers were evacuated from the station for security purposes. Metro service from Kashirskaya to Krasnogvardeiskaya metro station was temporarily suspended.

The Russian Transport Ministry provided 165 buses for transportation of the passengers from Kashirskaya to Krasnogvardeiskaya metro station.
