Moscow may get 100 electric buses next year – ROSNANO head

MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) — Next year Russia’s ROSNANO state corporation expects the first order for the supply of electric buses – 100 buses for Moscow, the head of the corporation, Anatoly Chubais, said at the international forum of nanotechnologies here on Wednesday.

Chubais said “this will be a new kind of transport, which will operate on state of the art electric accumulator units”. According to him, buses will be able to travel up to 240 kilometres on these accumulator units.

Chubais said a plant producing them would be built in Russia. New generation lithium ion batteries is one of the breakthrough projects which the corporation supervises in the sphere of “new power industry,” Chubais stressed.

“We plan to bring all projects in that sphere to 2.066 billion roubles,” the head of the corporation added. One more direction is the production of new materials. The amount of their production will be expanded to 153 billion roubles, Chubais said.

As for medicine, there are also some exclusive breakthrough technologies, which are introduced consistently. As an example, Chubais mentioned early diagnostics of thrombosis. He said the corporation plans to certify and launch the production this equipment not later than in autumn 2012.

“We already have a request from European countries as well as from the USA,” he added.

According to the head of ROSNANO, Russia will be ready to meet new global challenges of the 21st century.
