Shoigu to open rescuers' training center in Krasnoyarsk Terr

The Yergaki center has been established primarily for the prevention and elimination of the aftermath of various emergencies in the region

ABAKAN, Republic of Khakassia, October 26 (Itar-Tass) — Sergei Shoigu, Russian Minister for Emergencies, is to open a Yergaki-based center for the training and rehabilitation of rescuers in Krasnoyarsk Territory on Wednesday.

An official at the RME information department has told Itar-Tass that the Yergaki center has been established primarily for the prevention and elimination of the aftermath of various emergencies in the region, and for aid to stricken tourists, if any, or mountain-climbers, as well as for professional training of rescuers.

"Training center specialists will register tourist groups, and monitor their movement, ensuring safety from fires in the territory of the Yergaki nature park and adjacent areas," the RME official said.

The Training Center personnel will also react to road incidents and descent of avalanches in the mountainous section of the M-54 Federal Highway.

The nature park Yergaki takes up an area of over 200,000 hectares. It is located at a distance of 200 kilometres from Abakan, 180 km from Kyzyl, and 600 km from Krasnoyarsk. The Federal Highway runs across the park. Many sections of the highway are prone to avalanches. In the mountains, there is a threat of wildfires. Many a tourist itinerary is hazardous, which requires a permanent monitoring on the part of RME rescuers.

On October 27, Shoigu will visit the the Siberian regional air group of the RME and turn over a Be-200 plane and a BK-117 helicopter to it.
