Georgia, Ukraine may join NATO after implementing reforms

Georgia and Ukraine will join NATO, if they decide to implement the reforms, which are in line with the NATO standards

MOSCOW, October 25 (Itar-Tass) —— Georgia and Ukraine will join NATO, if they decide to implement the reforms, which are in line with the NATO standards, James Appathurai, special representative of the NATO Secretary-General for the Southern Caucasus and Central Asia, said here on Tuesday.

At the same time, he stressed that they would respect their decision and would not impose their terms on the Georgian and Ukrainian governments.

According to Appathurai, so far as Georgia is concerned, this is a matter of certain reforms according to the NATO standards. He said that the adoption of those standards would be an indication of the way the reforms are implemented in Georgia. Their implementation will be discussed in Tbilisi.
