YEKATERINBURG, October 25 (Itar-Tass) — Smoke which appeared in the rear of a passenger plane, where a kitchen block is, caused the plane crew to make an emergency landing in the city of Perm during a flight from Yekaterinburg to Frankfurt, the press service of the Urals branch of the Russian Investigative committee for transport told Itar-Tass.

The crew said that the emergency landing was caused by smoke in the rear of the plane where a kitchen block is. Flight attendants informed the chief pilot who made a decision to land at the nearest airport, the press service said.

At present, the flight passengers are staying at an international sector of Boshoye Savino airport. Some of them will be accommodated at hotels, the rest will be airlifted to the destination by different flights, the press service said. Doctors have examined all the passengers. No serous after-effects of the emergency landing have been found, it said.

Deputy director General of Bolshoye Savino airport Natalia Grigoryeva said that meals were provided to the passengers. A reserve plane will arrive to take them on board, Grigoryeva said.

A passenger Boeing A 320-200 owned by Lufthansa airlines made an emergency landing at Bolshoye Savino airport at 5. 45 am Moscow time Tuesday when the plane was performing a regular flight from Yekaterinburg to Frankfurt. There were 116 passengers, including a child, and six crewmen on board.

A preliminary investigation is being conducted. A team of investigators are to arrive on the scene.
