CARACAS, October 22 (Itar-Tass) — The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela “resolutely condemns the barbaric policy of the NATO bloc and its allies in Libya, plunging the sisterly country into the abyss of war that resulted in the violent change of power”, says the statement by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry, circulated on Friday evening.

“The crime, committed on October 20, 2011 against the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has become quintessence of crimes, committed against the Libyan people by colonial powers over the past months,” continues the communique. “It shows that the policy on the violent change of power was conducted in that country in violation of the basic principles of international law.”

“Illegal unilateral NATO aggression against the country which did not commit any military actions, is a dismal precedent that can be used by the empire at its own discretion against any country of the South, opposing the hegemonic policy,” states the Venezuelan ministry.

Venezuela “confirms its peacekeeping obligations and stands out against the culture of death, thrust by Western elites that turned into kindlers of the world in their desire to grab sovereign natural resources belonging to peoples”.
