Ukraine ready to compromise with Russia on gas issues - Azarov

Ukraine is prepared to agree to a compromise with Russia on gas matters, its Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said on the Inter television channel on Friday evening

KIEV, October 22 (Itar-Tass) —— Ukraine is prepared to agree to a compromise with Russia on gas matters, its Prime Minister Nikolai Azarov said on the Inter television channel on Friday evening.

He said, “the most important task for us now is to achieve a revision of the gas prices.”

“Naturally, we shall be prepared to make certain compromises, and we shall make them, because there will be no other way out. Otherwise the country will be sliding towards disaster, and we cannot permit this. We shall find reasonable compromises,” he said.

We have been trying to find a balance of interest, although the talks are rather tough-going. And when we announce that, we shall hear various voices. Some will be accusing us, and others will be applauding,” Azarov said. “But I believe our agreement will meet the long-term interests of Ukraine and our partners. We shall not have to wait much longer.”
