MOSCOW, October 21 (Itar-Tass) —— The death of Libya’s former leader Muammar Gaddafi arouses a number of questions and requires an international probe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday.

“We have to rely on facts and on international laws, which say that international humanitarian rules fixed in the Geneva conventions are applicable in case of armed conflicts. Under the Geneva conventions, special measure are to be applied to a participant in an armed conflict as soon as he or she is taken prisoner,” Lavrov told the Voice of Russia, Radio of Russia, and Ekho Moskvy (Moscow Echo) radio stations. “In any case, no prisoner can be killed.”

According to Lavrov, an international probe must be launched into the circumstances of Gaddafi’s death, including those related to NATO operations.
