RF’s forestry to have effective fire extinguishing system by 2013

Shoigu stressed that the forestry should organise a federal reserve for possible problems with wildfires

MOSCOW, October 21 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s forestry promises to organise by 2013 an effective system to extinguish wildfires.

Deputy head of the authority, Nikolai Krotov, told a governmental commission on prevention and overcoming emergency situations, that the forestry had designed a programme for extinguishing wildfires.

“Can we /EMERCOM/ be sure that from 2013 we shall forget about extinguishing wildfires?” EMERCOM’s head Sergei Shoigu asked.

“I hope that we shall be able to cope with the situation ourselves, as by 2013 there will be an effective system /for prevention and extinguishing of wildfires/,” Krotov replied.

Shoigu stressed that the forestry should organise a federal reserve for possible problems with wildfires.

“I said about it three years ago already,” he said.

Shoigu said also that the forestry authority together with meteorologists should work out parameters, as to when an emergency situation regimen should be announced.
