Russia’s and China’s representatives discuss in Beijing strengthening of cooperation in providing international and regional security

BEIJING, October 20 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s and China’s representatives discuss in Beijing strengthening of cooperation in providing international and regional security.

The sixth round of the Russian-Chinese consultations began on Thursday. It features Russia’s Security Council’s Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and China’s member of the State Council Dai Bingguo.

“We have had privy consultations, and I believe they were very productive,” Patrushev said. “We have discussed many major issues.”

He expressed readiness to discuss suggestions, made by the Chinese side, but did not specify the topics.

Dai Bingguo, in his turn, said at the opening of the consultations that he had a very detailed exchange of views with Nikolai Patrushev.

“For almost two hours we have been exchanging views on various issues of mutual interest and now I ma ready to continue with you a dialogue on bilateral relations and on other issues of international and regional character.”

In the afternoon, Patrushev will have a meeting with China’s Vice President Xi Jinping. On Wednesday, Patrushev had a meeting with China’s Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu, where the sides discussed cooperation in fighting terrorism, extremism and separatism, as well as other issues.

The state consultations on strategic security between Russia and China began in 2005. For China they became a first experimental mechanism, organised with another country. Moscow and Beijing discuss fighting new threats and challenges, and cooperation in the international arena.
