Police detain Yekaterinburg pupil who stabbed teacher

The teacher has already been discharged from hospital and answered police officers’ questions

YEKATERINBURG, October 19 (Itar-Tass) — Police in Yekaterinburg detained the teenager who had stabbed a teacher at a city school during a break between classes, the press service of regional police told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

“The victim’s life is out of danger. The teacher has already been discharged from hospital and answered police officers’ questions. He did not hesitate to name the attacker, as he had seen an object resembling a knife in his hand. Furthermore, having realized that he had been seen, the suspect tried to escape, but a guard detained him in the school’s dining hall,” the press service said.

The investigators ascertained that a 15-year-old youth had skipped the first lesson; and when the teacher rebuked him, there was a spat between him and the teacher, and several hours later, an incident occurred.

“If the adolescent were 16 years old, he would face criminal responsibility. But he will not be able to avoid punishment anyway. Taking into account the fact that the adolescent has a conviction for theft and is on one-year parole, prosecutors and police intend to ask judicial authorities to change parole for real prison term, the regional police said.
