1st intl TV festival of CIS TEFI-Commonwealth opening in Kiev

Dozens of television works in different genres have been prepared for show

KIEV, October 19 (Itar-Tass) — The first international TV festival TEFI-Commonwealth is opening in the Ukrainian capital on Wednesday. The CIS television community will have an opportunity to demonstrate at it their achievements against the backdrop of the approaching 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Symbolically, the TV festival that is dedicated to this jubilee will be held within the Forum of Creative and Scientific Intelligentsia of the CIS to be held in Kiev on October 20 - 21. All this has determined the main theme of the two-day TV festival- “National Cultural Traditions and the Dynamics of the Contemporary Cultural Environment in Television Programs of the CIS Countries.”

Dozens of television works in different genres have been prepared for show. “There is no competitive program, the festival has a familiarisation nature. TV companies of the CIS countries will present their vision of the processes associated with the main theme of the show,” press secretary of the festival and the Academy of Russian Television Foundation Natalya Samoletova. According to her, “the purpose and objective of the festival is the establishment of active cooperation between TV broadcasters and individual professionals from the CIS countries, the joint development of measures to promote the latest achievements in broadcasting and television production in the Commonwealth.” The results of the specialised TEFI will be summarised by experts, including many prominent Russian television masters. Diplomas will be handed to the festival participants from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine.

The Russian National Television Award TEFI for high achievements in the field of Television Arts was established in 1994. TEFI is presented in various sectors (up to 50 nominations), such as television shows, notable people in the television industry, journalists, channels. The winners are awarded with Orpheus statuette created by Ernst Neizvestny.

The organisers of the TEFI-Commonwealth are the Academy of Russian Television and the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of CIS member states with support of the Federal Agency for the Press and Mass Communications.

Armenia’s representatives will not take part in the festival, as they failed to submit in time the application for participation in the event.
