Two new bridges, 3 km of high-speed road built on Fed highway

The newly-built road sections are open to vehicular traffic

VLADIVOSTOK, October 19 (Itar-Tass) — Two new bridges and over three kilometres of modern high-speed road have been brought into use on the M-60 Federal Highway (Vladivostok-Khabarovsk) in the road leg between the city of Ussuriisk and Chernigovka Township.

The newly-built road sections are open to vehicular traffic. One can now cross the Osinovka River via two modern bridges positioned one after the other, an official in the press service of the Vladivostok branch of the SK MOST building company told Itar-Tass on Wednesday..

"The motorists have been awaiting this event for more than two decades," the company official said. "A decision to build the bridges was taken way back in the 1980s. Building work proper was started in the 1990s but was then suspended for years for lack of financing."

In recent years transport vehicles in the area had to follow a provisional roundabout road via old dangerous-to-use bridges. Along the entire Vladivostok-Khabarovsk road, this was almost the only section lacking asphalt surfacing.

It was only in 2010 that the implementation of the project was resumed by including it in the programme for large-scale modernization of the Federal Highway. The road is being renovated under the programme "The Economic and Social Development of the Far East and Zabaikalye (Trans-Baikal area) in the Period till 2013". Special attention is being devoted to road sections in the suburbs of Vladivostok and Ussuriisk near which a modern two-lane asphalt-surfaced road is to appear by 2012.
