MOSCOW, October 18 (Itar-Tass) — The 2011 Space Forum is opening in the Star City near Moscow on Tuesday. It’s devoted to the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s pioneer flight to outer space.
A conference titled “Manned Space Flights” will be held at the Cosmonauts Training Centre on the first two days (October 18 and 19) where experts will discuss urgent issues of manned cosmonautics.
Another conference on problems of space biology and medicine as well as a symposium on life-support systems for manned flights will be held on the last two days of the working week (October 20 and 21) at the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The forum will be attended by Russia’s leading experts as well as representatives of NASA and the European Space Agency, sources at the Cosmonauts Training Centre said.
In their speeches, the participants in the conference will discuss the application of new scientific developments during manned flights, share experience in fundamental and applied medical and biological research in the sphere of space biology and medicine; they will also consider medical risk factors and outline prospects for improving methods of selection and training of cosmonauts, medical back-up for space flights and post-flight rehabilitation of space crews.
Great attention will be paid to the safety of man’s stay in outer space.
