IRKUTSK, October 17 (Itar-Tass) — The number of people hospitalized in Bratsk with a diagnosis of acute intestinal infection has risen to 41, the city administration told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The patients began arriving late last week. Along with 23 employees of the Vozrozhdeniye enterprise, who are building the underwater crossing of the Eastern Siberia - Pacific Ocean (ESPO) oil pipeline in the Ust-Ilim reservoir 40 kilometers from Bratsk, 18 residents of the city are also undergoing treatment. They all ate fancy cakes with albumen cream from a local producer.
The patients, including two children, have been distributed among four health facilities. Their condition is assessed as satisfactory, and some patients are in a medium severity state.
Samples taken by experts of the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection and Human Health Control Service (Rospotrebnadzor) have shown that the people had a salmonella invasion.
The authorities of the Russian Investigative Committee (SK) are conducting pre-investigation checks. They will make a procedural decision on their results.
