MOSCOW, October 15 (Itar-Tass) —— President Dmitry Medvedev said the decision to nominate Prime Minister Vladimir Putin for presidency is not a return to the past but a way to solve existing problems in the country.
“This is a not a return to the past, but a way to solve the tasks we have set ourselves,” Medvedev said at a meeting with his supporters on Saturday, October 15.
“My rating and Vladimir Putin’s rating and degree of trust are high, but his is higher,” Medvedev admitted. “We are practicing politicians, not dreamers,” he added.
Medvedev said Putin and he are connected not only by work but also by friendship. “We are not competitors, but close comrades and friends,” he said.
The president stressed that the decision is “a result of long analysis”. “We considered different options because one can lose points in politics quite fast,” he said.
