Russia to create certified labs for migrants’ health examination

Gennady Onishchenko underlined that medical tests of migrants cost too much in Russia

MOSCOW, October 14 (Itar-Tass) — The head of the Russian consumer rights’ watchdog, Gennady Onishchenko, said on Friday in the future Russia would create certified laboratories testing migrants’ health in labour exporting countries.

“There are plans to create certified laboratories (in the CIS member-states), which we could trust,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting that brought together heads of sanitary and epidemiological services of member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

He reiterated that at present, most migrants undergo medical examination in Russia. Migrants are banned from entering Russia, if they have such diseases as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and venereal diseases. There is a special list of diseases banning labour migration.

Onishchenko underlined that medical tests of migrants cost too much in Russia.

“Unfortunately, we do this in our country,” he said stressing the need for the creation of labs that would examine all those who want to go for work to Russia and issue standard medical certificates.
